Each tree and shrub Landshapes installs has been chosen to suit your
individual style and soil/site conditions. During planting, your native
topsoil is mixed with a blend of compost and nutrients rich in essential
microorganisms to stimulate root growth and reduce overall shock to
your new plants. A thick layer of mulch insulates transplanted root
systems from heat and cold, and helps with moisture retention in the
soil. As your new plants adjust to their new environment, they
will require weekly waterings for the first year for healthy
establishment. Lack of sufficient water is the leading cause of plant
failure. Slow, deep waterings when the soil is dry at a depth of 3-4 inches, one or twice a week, depending on weather
conditions, should be adequate. Remember, the bigger the plant, the more water it will require. Soaker hoses, garden
hoses on a slow trickle and tree gators work best for deep soakings.
Take care not to expose plant roots to lawn
fertilizers and herbicides the first few years. Tree stakes, if necessary, should be left on for no longer than 2 years. Do
not expect vigorous vegetative growth with your new plants the first year, as they are dedicating most of their energy
to root establishment.
